Dateline: Cascade Harold J. Neiers, 94, of 401 2nd Ave SW, Cascade, Iowa, died Monday, July 11, 2010 at 3:00 a.m. at his home in Cascade, Iowa
Friends and relatives of Harold may call from 3 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 13, 2010 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 4:30 p.m.
Services for Harry will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 14, 2010 at the St. Martin’s Catholic church in Cascade, Iowa, with Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa.
Harold was born August 30, 1916 in Cascade, Iowa, son of Michael and Augusta (Gehl) Neiers. He is a graduate of the former St. Mary’s High School in Cascade, Iowa. On June 20, 1949 he was united in marriage to Mary M. Foulks at St. Raphael’s Cathedral in Dubuque, Iowa. He owned and operated Neiers Painting and Decorating in Cascade, until his retirement. Harry has been an avid and loyal Bears fan since 1936. One of his greatest treasures was the many happy memories of times spent with family and friends. Harry was a World War II Army Veteran, having received the Purple Heart, for injuries received while serving in Holland. He was a member of St. Matthias Parish and its Altar and Rosary Society in Cascade, Iowa.
He is survived by four children, Greg Neiers of Albany, WI, Bob (LaVonne Mohn) Neiers of San Francisco, CA, Melia Gassman of Dubuque, IA, and Kelly (Matt) Reding of Blairstown, IA; seven grandchildren, Willie Neiers, Micki Barnes, Todd, Erin, and Tony Gassman, Michael “Jack” Elbert and Macy VanTomme; seven great grandchildren, Madalyn, Megan, Teagan, Carter and Talan, Maryssa and Casen; one brother, Fred (Mary) Neiers of Cascade, IA.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Neiers on June 11, 2007; two brothers, Carl Neiers and Eugene Neiers; and a sister, Helen Neiers.
A Harol J. Neiers memorial fund has been established.
