Robert W. Trumm

Obituary announcement Dateline: Cascade

Robert W. “Bob” Trumm, 82, of 19853 HWY 136, Cascade, Iowa, died peacefully at 2:45 p.m., on Monday, June 11, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.

Friends and relatives of Robert may call from 2 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 4:00 p.m.

Services for Robert will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 14, 2012 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Temple Hill, Iowa, with Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be held in the Church Cemetery with Full Military Honors afforded by the Cascade American Legion Post #528.

Robert was born February 15, 1930 in Key West, Iowa, son of John and Elizabeth (Pottebaum) Trumm. The family moved to Temple Hill when he was in 2nd grade. He received his education in the Sacred Heart School in Fillmore and St. Peter’s in Temple Hill. On August 2, 1956 he was united in marriage to Betty McCarthy at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fillmore, Iowa. He was a sussessful farmer of the family farm in the rural Temple Hill area his entire life. He was a conservation minded farmer of the land, a compassionate livestock farmer and an innovator. He invented several farm implements, and modified many other pieces of equipment. He didn’t think twice about taking the torch to a newly purchased farm implement to make modifications that would make it more useful. Grinding feed, planting corn, moving cattle and mowing hay were jobs he saw as a privelage rather than hard work. He loved the land & counted himself among the truly blessed. A sign hung in the home that read, “Those who labor the earth are the chosen people of God.” Robert believed those words to the very end.

Robert was a family man and from the day he was born his life centered around family. His childhood was filled with the hard work and fun that went with growing up on a farm with 7 siblings during the depression. His adult life was centered around raising 7 children. A man who worked 6 days a week before sun up and after sundown he made it a priority to set every Sunday aside for his family. Robert was an Army Veteran, having served in Korea.

He is a lifetime member of St. Peter’s Parish in Temple Hill, and a member of the Cascade American Legion Post #528.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Trumm of Cascade; seven children, Judy (Larry) Hayes of Peosta, Dr. Margie Trumm of Reynoldsburg, OH, Donna (Garry) Kennedy of Palatine, IL, Ann (Kipp) Noreen of West Dundee, IL, Lois (Dan) Hayes of Morrison, IL, Joe (Sara) Trumm of Cascade and Connie Trumm of Cascade; 18 grandchildren, Molly, Emily and Natalie Hayes, Ryan and Matthew Kennedy, Brittany, Alexander and Todd Noreen, Tyler, Mallory, and Abigail Hayes, Robert, Philip, Carolyn, David, Becky, Emily, Annie Trumm, with a grandchild expected in August; 3 great grandchildren; 5 siblings, Alma (George) Knepper of Cascade, Dorothy (Lawrence) Yanda of Anamosa, Millie Hosch and John (Ida) Trumm all of Cascade, and Lois (Lloyd) Manternach of Worthington.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Reiter; a brother, LeRoy Trumm; a sister in law, Mary Trumm; and brothers-in-law, Eddie Hosch, Robert McCarthy and Fred Reiter.

A Robert W. Trumm memorial fund has been established.
