Carlene E. McDonnell, 84, of Dubuque, Iowa and formerly of Bernard, Iowa, died at 12:30 p.m., Monday, July 2, 2012 at Manor Care Health Services in Dubuque, Iowa.

Friends and relatives of Carlene may call from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 6, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Garryowen, Iowa.

Services for Carlene will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 6, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Garryowen, Iowa with Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be held in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Garryowen, Iowa.

Carlene was born July 24, 1927 in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Leo and Loretta (Coakley) Noonan. She is a graduate of the former St. Patrick’s High School in Garryowen, Iowa. She attended the University of Dubuque where she received her Bachelor’s Degree and later attended Clarke College in Dubuque, where she received her Master’s Degree.

On October 5, 1948 she was united in marriage to Raymond P. McDonnell at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Garryowen. Carlene taught school at Resurrection Elementary in Dubuque and later at the Western Dubuque Bernard Elementary.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish in Bernard and it’s Altar and Rosary Society.

She is survived by two daughters, Janella (Jerry) Millard of Dubuque, IA; Lea Ann (Jerry) Shaddox of Wqterloo, IA; four grandchildren, Marnie (Chad) Robbins, Shawn Shaddox, Shane Shaddox, and Layne Millard; one great grandchild, Harper Robbins; one sister, Maurna O’Brien of Cascade, IA; one brother, Willard (Marie) Noonan of Bernard, IA; four sisters-in-law, Carmie McDonnell-Decker of Bernard, IA, Kathleen McDonnell and Margaret Ryan both of Cascade, IA and Theresa Melloy of Dubuque, IA.
