Obituary announcement Dateline: Epworth

David J. Beyer, 58, of 106 7th Ave SW, Epworth, Iowa, died at 5:20 p.m., Sunday, July 8, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.

Friends and relatives may call from 2 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Epworth, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 4:00 p.m.

Services for David will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Epworth, Iowa with Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.

David was born September 9, 1953 in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Edward and Anna (Giunta) Beyer. He graduated with the First class from Hempstead High School., and attended Loras College in Dubuque, IA. On September 3, 1973 he was united in marriage to Michele Licht at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dubuque, Iowa. He was employed at Morrison Brothers as a CNC operator for 27 years and also worked at his uncles Restaurant, Marco’s, as a bartender and several other positions for many years.

He was a Eagle Scout with the Bronze Palm, the Dubuque Musicmen Barbershop Choras of which he was President for two years and received the award for Barbershopper of the year, he was a member of the Living Last Supper and a member of St. Patrick’s Parish in Epworth, a member of the church council and the liturgy committee. He served as a lector for many years and was a choir member, and was a CCD teacher and a member of the Epworth/Farley CEW Community. He was a member of the Epworth men’s softball team, he coached Little league, and was a former member of the Epworth Jaycees.

He is survived by his wife, Michele Beyer of Epworth, IA, five children, Diana (Luke) Bonert of Epworth, IA, Tara Beyer of Dubuque, IA, Rose-Michele (Nathan) Chmelar of North Buena Vista, IA, Elizabeth (Jayme) Heiderscheit of Dubuque, IA, Michael Beyer of Maquoketa, IA; six grandchildren, Brandon, Austin and Sydney Bonert, Russell and Sophia Chmelar, and Jayson Heiderscheit; his mother, Anna Beyer of Dubuque, IA; Six siblings, Paul (Shelly) Beyer, Jim (Patti) Beyer, Mary Ann (John) Bradley, Bob (Julie) Beyer, Carla Beyer, Robin (Ron) Greve all of Dubuque, IA; his father and mother-in-law, Joe and Maxine Wanger of Dubuque, IA; his godchildren, Becky Menster, Jaimee Philips and Nick Wagner; nieces and nephews; and special family friends, The Ronald Newton family.

He is preceded in death by his father, Edward Beyer; a sister, Rose Marie Beyer and his father-in-law, Bud Licht.
