Leo A. Takes, 83, of 304 2nd Ave NW, Cascade, Iowa, died Sunday, July 15, 2012 at 5:45 a.m. at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade, Iowa.
Friends and relatives of Leo may call from 3 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 16, 2012 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 4:00 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m.
Services for Leo will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at St. Martin’s Catholic church in Cascade, Iowa, with Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa, with full military honors afforded by the Cascade American Legion Post #528.
Leo was born February 12, 1929 in Cascade, Iowa, son of Albert P. and Rosalyn (Koob) Takes. He is a graduate of the former St. Mary’s High School in Cascade. On May 2, 1957 he was united in marriage to Lorraine Franklin in Marion, Iowa. He was the proprietor of B & L Auto Service until his retirement.
Leo is an Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953.
He was a member of St. Matthias parish in Cascade, a lifelong member of the Cascade Knights of Columbus, the Cascade American Legion post #528 and the Cascade Sportsman’s club.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Takes of Cascade, IA; four children, Kathy (John) Schneider of West Burlington, IA, David (Karen) Takes of Cedar Falls, IA, Carol (Peter) Kottenstette of Burlington, IA, and Alan (Christine) Takes of Cedar Falls, IA; 10 grandchildren, Lyn and Luke Schneider; Adam, Kyra, and Leah Takes; Anna, Christopher and Sarah Kottenstette; Natalie and Samantha Takes; two brothers, Raymond Takes and Donald (Aileen) Takes both of Cascade, IA; and two sisters, Marie Finn of Cascade, IA, and Leona “Mazie” (Fred) Moore of LaMotte, IA.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Eldon Takes; a sister-in-law, Irene Takes; and a brother-in-law, Gerald “Rusty” Finn.
