Francis J. “Frank” Simon, 93, of 11010 Holy Cross Road, Farley, Iowa, died Sunday, September 23, 2012 at 7:42 p.m. at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade, Iowa.
Friends and relatives of Frank may call from 2 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Farley, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 2:30 p.m.
Services for Frank will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 27,2012 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley, Iowa, with Rev. Michael Schueller Presiding. Concelebrating will be Rev. John P. Ptacek. Burial will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Farley, Iowa.
Frank was born August 16, 1919 in Farley, Iowa, son of Michael and Beatrice (McElmeel) Simon. He received his education in the Farley area schools. On September 16, 1941 he was united in marriage to Mary E. Green at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa. He worked for a trucking firm for a few years, then was employed as Town Marshall for Farley, from 1946-1950. Frank farmed in the Holy Cross area for over 30 years until his retirement, when he moved to the rural Farley area where he spent many years working in the families rock quarry. Frank had many hobbies, including, making furniture, playing cards, fishing and especially spending time with his family.
He was a member of St. Joseph's parish in Farley, and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society, and is a retired volunteer for the Farley Fire Department.
Surviving are his nine children, James "Jim" (Eileen) Simon of Farley, IA, Jane Simon of Sioux Rapids, IA, Rose (Leon) Wolf of Rickardsville, IA, Clara Simon of Castle Rock, CO, Irene (Gene) Pearcey of Yakima, WA, Phyllis (Bruce Taggart) Simon of Youngsville, NC, Annette Simon of Dallas, TX, Roger (Theresa) Simon of East Dubuque, IL, and Francis "Joe" Simon Jr. of Yakima, WA; sixteen grandchildren; thirty nine great grandchildren; one brother, Michael Simon of Guttenberg, IA; a sister, Margaret Roling of Rockford, IL; and two sisters-in-law, Char Simon and Thelma Simon both of Dubuque, IA.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Simon on February 22, 2009; a daughter, Betty Marlene Simon on September 14, 1955; and a son, Vincent P. Simon on January 5, 1989; his parents, Mike and Beatrice; four brothers, John, Paul, Nicholas and Richard Simon; three sisters-in-law, Mary Lee, Margaret, and Lorraine Simon; and a brother-in-law, Irvin Roling.
A Frank J. Simon memorial fund has been established.
