Adrian J. "Ade" Kurt, 93, of Cascade, Iowa, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade, Iowa surrounded by his family.

Friends and relatives of Ade may call from 2 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa, a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be held at 8:00 p.m. Friends may also call after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Services for Ade will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa, with Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa, with full military honors afforded by the Cascade American Legion Post #528.

He was born September 10, 1923 in Cascade, Iowa, son of Edward and Rosalyn (Curley) Kurt. He is a graduate of the former St. Martin's High School in Cascade. On September 8, 1949 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Wieneke at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa. She preceded him in death on November 14, 2006.

Ade was co-owner of the Cascade Drug store from 1949-1975 and managed it from 1975 until 2008.
He played baseball with the Cascade Reds for 15 years. He was inducted into the Dubuque County Baseball Hall of Fame. Ade was a lifetime avid and devoted CUBS fan, and of all his hopes and dreams, he finally got to see the CUBS take the World Series.

Ade was a Army veteran having served for 2 ½ years, in Europe in Eisenhowers Shaef Headquarters. He is a life time member of the American Legion Post #528 and served as officer for 42 years. He was a member of the Shaef Veterans Association, a member of the Freedom flag committee since 1985. He received numerous service awards and most recent was the Legion of Honor medal from the French Republic in 2016

He was also a member of St. Matthias Parish-serving as trustee for 22 years, a life time member of the Knights of Columbus Council #930 and a member of 40 & 8 Volture. He was the Little League Commissioner for 23 years and member of the Western Dubuque Legion Baseball committee since 1975.

He is also survived by five children, Kenneth "K-whop" Kurt of Cascade, Bonnie (Michael) Jordan of Bellingham, WA, Wane (Ann) Kurt of Cascade, Patty (Steve) Hartley of Davenport, IA, and Kelli (Bernie) Trumm of Cascade, IA; 12 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and one on the way; two sisters, Bernice Gudenkauf of Warrenville, IL and Elaine "Toots" Hoffman of Cascade, IA; and a sister-in-law Margie Kurt of Indianapolis, IN.

He is also preceded in death by his parents; one son, William Kurt on July 6, 1972; a daughter in-law, Mary Lou Kurt on Aug. 31, 2010; his siblings, Merlin "Bud" Kurt, Richard Kurt; a sister-in-law, Marion Kurt; two brothers-in-law Al Gudenkauf and William Hoffman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Cascade American Legion Post #538 or to Hospice of Dubuque.
