Clara M. Bergfeld, 87, of Dyersville, Iowa, formerly of Epworth and Farley, Iowa passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 12:05 p.m. at Oak Crest Care Center in Dyersville, Iowa.
Friends and relatives of Clara may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2016 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Epworth, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 2:30 p.m. and a Catholic Daughter of Americas Rosary will be held at 4:30 p.m.
Services for Clara will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 15, 2016 At St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Epworth, Iowa with Rev. Michael Schueller Presiding. Burial will be held in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Epworth, Iowa.
Clara was born May 23, 1929 in Durango, Iowa, daughter of Joseph and Lena (Krug) Behnke. She received her education from the English Mills Country School. On July 21, 1948 she was united in marriage to James E. Bergfeld at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Dubuque, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 9, 1994. The couple farmed in the rural Epworth area. She sold Stanley Home Products from 1969 to 2015. Clara worked for many years catering with Martha Jane Demmer.
Clara enjoyed playing cards, bingo, going to Tama with her family and friends. Grandma Bergie loved family reunions with her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids in Springbrook, Iowa Known as the "Bergfeld Bash." She was known as Grandma Bergie to many other children in the community.
She is a member of St. Patrick's Parish in Epworth, Iowa and the Farley Catholic Daughter of the Americas-Presentation Court #1460.
She is survived by her five children; Roger (Denice) Bergfeld of Dubuque, IA, Jim Bergfeld of Cascade, IA, Terry (Kelly) Bergfeld of Sherrill, IA, Linda (Steve) Hefel of Epworth, IA and Rhonda (Randy) Kramer of Dyersville, IA, 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; two brothers, Melvin (Barb) Behnke of Peosta, IA and Ed (Betty) Behnke of Dubuque, IA; one sister, Loretta (Lavern) Frieburger of Holy Cross, IA; three sisters-in-law, Margie Bergfeld of Bernard,IA, Mary Behnke of Dubuque, IA and Marilyn Bergfeld of Key West, IA; and one aunt, Ann Krug of Dubuque, IA.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James E. Bergfeld, one brother, Joseph Behnke, one great grandchild, Roger John Bergfeld.
A Clara M. Bergfeld memorial fund has been established.
