Obituary

Cyril R. Feller, 100, of Cascade, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at his home in Cascade, Iowa.

Visitation for Cy will be held from 9 to 10:45 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2024, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa, where a Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Mark Osterhaus officiating and Deacon Mark Otting assisting. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa with full military honors afforded by the Cascade American Legion Post #528.  The services will be live streamed on the St. Thomas Aquinas facebook page.  The Reiff Funeral Home of Cascade, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.

Cy was born in Bellevue, Iowa, on June 10, 1924, son of Frank and Katherine (Etringer) Feller.  He attended school through the 6th grade.  He then farmed with his dad until he went into the Navy in March of 1945.  He was stationed in the Philippines for 9 months during WWII.  He was released from the Navy in August of 1946, at which time he continued to farm with his dad.  In the late winter of 1945, he met Bertha Bormann, he had known her since she was 5 years old.  On January 13, 1948 they were married at Sugar Creek Church.  Their first year of marriage they lived in Charlotte and worked for a farmer, then moving to Andrew where he rented a farm in 1949 and continued to farm until 1962.  The couple moved to Cascade in 1965, where he lived for 59 years.  He then began to work at the Monastery and later worked at the Dahlem Feed Store and Simon Feed, retiring at the age of 62.

Cyril and Bertha celebrated their 70th Wedding anniversary on January 13, 2018.  Bertha preceded him in death on June 29, 2020.

Cyril always enjoyed horses and playing a round of bid euchre.  He was a member of the Legion Post #528 for 54 years, which he took great pride in.  He was honored to receive his Quilt of Valor in December of 2020.  Cy was able to celebrate his 100th birthday at Claddaugh Court on June 10th.

Cyril is survived by eight children, Cheryl (Gary) Proffitt of Pearland, TX, Roger Feller of State Center, IA, Mary (Ken) Lyons of Monticello, IA, Bonnie (Steve) Delaney of Peosta, IA, Lou Ann (Alan) Meier of Cascade, IA, Rick Feller of Cascade, IA, Kathy Tasker of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Donna (Mike) Callahan of Cascade, IA; 17 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Ronnie Feller; son-in-law, John Tasker and a grandson, Sean Proffitt; and being the youngest of 12 and living the longest he is also preceded in death by his five brothers and their spouses, Nick (Anna) Feller, Clarence (Loretta) Feller, Ben (Vernita) Feller, Alvin (Dorothy) Feller, Leroy (Rosella) Feller; and six sisters and their spouses, Lorina (Leo) Thilges, Rosella (Anthony) Kilburg, Martha (Victor) Burken, Laura (Ray) Bormann, Regina (Rich) Bormann, and Erma (Leroy) Helmle.

A Cyril R. Feller memorial fund has been established.
