Obituary

Dennis E. Zimmer, 66, of Epworth, Iowa, passed away surrounded by his family Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center, in Dubuque, Iowa after a courageous battle with Cancer.

Friends and relatives of Dennis may call from 3 to 8 p.m., Sunday, June 25, 2017 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Epworth, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friends may also call after 9 a.m. at the funeral home on Monday, June 26, 2017.

Services for Dennis will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 26, 2017 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Epworth, Iowa with Rev. Michael Schueller presiding. Burial will be held at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Epworth, Iowa.

Dennis was born April 17, 1951 in Prairie du Chien, WI, son of Edward and Thelma (Check) Zimmer. He graduated from Bloomington High School in Bloomington, WI. On November 7, 2003 he was united in marriage to Marge Wilgenbusch at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, in Dubuque, IA. She preceded him in death on August 5, 2015. Dennis worked for 24 years as a Truck Driver for Ag Trucking until his retirement in January 2017.

Dennis had a love for traveling, he especially enjoyed the local food and craft beers while on his trips. He also enjoyed afternoon drives and spending time with his family.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Parish.

He is survived by three children, Tori (Brian) Morrow of Muskego, WI, Cheri (Keith) Zenz of Potosi, WI, and Kim (Todd) Then of Cascade, IA; three step children, Rodney Hodgson of Shawano, WI, Kristi (Chris) Klein of Byron, MN, and Scott (Jen) Hodgson of Epworth, IA; 15 grandchildren; two sisters, Diane (Jerry) Klein of Dodgeville, WI, Darlene (Gary) Welch of Janesville, WI; brothers and sisters-in-law, Doris Wessels of Epworth, IA, Cheryl (Bob) Hird of Dubuque, IA, Tom (Lavonne) Wilgenbusch, Dan (Connie) Wilgenbusch both of Epworth, IA and Steve (Janet) Wilgenbusch of Antioch, TN; Kay Wilgenbusch of Epworth, IA, Ronnie Connolly of Dubuque, IA.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one granddaughter.

The family would like to give special thanks to his medical team at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA for the wonderful care and support they gave to Dennis.
