Dolores M. “Girlie” Thier, 93 of Farley, Iowa, passed peacefully at her home of 69 years watching the world go by with her family on Monday, September 28, 2023.

Visitation for Dolores will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., Thursday, October 1, 2026 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial for Dolores will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, October 2, 2026, at the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville, Iowa with Rev. Joshua Krischel officiating Burial will be held in St. Francis Cemetery in Dyersville, Iowa.

Dolores was born May 27, 1933, in Cascade, Iowa, the 2nd child of five children to Victor and Laura of (Morman) Rollinger. She received her education in the Bernard and Cascade area and went on to graduate from Coe College and Upper Iowa with her Teaching ?Degree. Dolores taught in several one room schools from Bernard to Centralia. She ended her career in the Western Dubuque School District. After retirement she continued to talk about how proud she was of her students. She loved her students and loved teaching.

Dolores was united in marriage to Joseph Their on August 3, 1957, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Garryowen, Iowa. Together the couple farmed in the rural Dyersville area. After 53 years of marriage he preceded her in death on February 14, 2010.

Dolores and Joe enjoyed Polka dancing with their friends and fellow members of the Little Switzerland Polka Club. There were many trips to Texas in the winter with them dancing, walks and finding restaurants with the best deals.

Dolores was a gentle and caring mother. Family meant everything to her. If you came to her home, she fed you. If you needed help she was there. As a lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier you would never find her without her rosary close by. She said, “saying it calmed her” her faith meant a lot to her, no doubt God has her now.

She is survived by three children, Vic (Jean) Thier of Bernard, Laura (Greg) Russell of Greenfield, IN, and Jerry Thier (fiancé, Diana Mickelson) of Bankston, IA; and a daughter-in-law, Sheri Thier-Hoeger (Al Hoeger); her grandchildren; Craig (Diane) Thier of Dubuque, Carl (Alaina) Thier of Peosta, Tina (Randy) Miller of Bellevue, Jaimie (Joel) Gourley, Cory (Amber) Thier of Dyersville, Samantha Russell of Beloit, WI , Veronica, Nicholas and Jessica Russell of Greenfield, IN; great grandchildren, Ella, Elliott, Sienna, Joey Thier, Paige, Adele, Chole Miller, Miles and Hallie Gourley; her siblings, Jill Rollinger Marie Wagner, Betty (Dick) Knapp, Ronnie (Diane) Rollinger, and a sister-in-law, Lynn Rollinger and many nieces and nephews.

She is also preceded in death by one son, Jeff Thier on May 20, 2002; her parents; her brother, Bob; and in-laws, Lavonne and Sandy Rollinger, Earl Wagner, Germaine and Bill Mescher, Art and Catherine “Kay” Thier, Jim and Marie Thier, August “Gus” and Kay Thier.
