Obituary

Dorothy M. Urbain, 88, of Farley, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade, Iowa.
Friends and relatives of Dorothy may call from 3 to 7 p.m., Thursday, December 8, 2016 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Farley, Iowa, where the Farley American Legion Auxiliary Service will be held at 7:00 p.m.
Services for Dorothy will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 9, 2016 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley, Iowa with Rev. Michael Schueller officiating. Burial will be held in St. John's Cemetery in Placid, Iowa.
Dorothy was born March 8, 1928 in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Paul N. and Katherine D. (Streif) Thul. She received her education in the St. Clement School in Bankston and graduated from St. Joseph's School in Farley, Iowa. On September 27, 1949 she was united in marriage to Wilbert J. Urbain at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 1, 1999. The couple farmed in the Farley area for many years until retiring to Farley in 1983.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Parish and its Altar and Rosary Society, a member of the Farley Historical Society, the Farley American Legion Auxiliary and the Farley Garden Club. Dorothy was a volunteer librarian for St. Joseph's School for many years. She was an avid bowler for many years.
She is survived by eight children, Charles (Joyce) Urbain of Davenport, IA, Carol (Arnie) Boge of Ionia, IA, Cathy (Thomas) Penn of Cedar Rapids, IA, Clair (Paulette) Urbain of Fort Atkinson, WI, Cletus (Elaine) Urbain of Dyersville, IA, Carla (David) Babics of Dixon, IL, Calvin Urbain of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Dr. Colleen (Russell) Hess of Plainview, MN; 13 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
She is also preceded in death by one son, Wilbert Gerard Urbain on June 26, 1955.
A Dorothy M. Urbain memorial fund has been established in lieu of flowers.
