Duane R. Werner, 88, of Dyersville, Iowa, and formerly of Hopkinton, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at his home in Dyersville, Iowa, surrounded by his loving family.

Visitation for Duane will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Visitation will also continue from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Duane at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Worthington, Iowa. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery in Dyersville, Iowa.

He was born July 20, 1938 in Dyersville, Iowa, the son of David and Frances (Sherlock) Werner. He attended school in a one- room school house and then attended the Delhi parochial school. On May 28, 1960, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Yvonne Kennedy, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Placid, Iowa.

Duane took great pride in the farm he called home and the life he built there with his family. He loved the hard work, the changing seasons, and the satisfaction that came from being a steward of the land. Most of all, he cherished raising his children on the farm, teaching them the value of hard work and never being afraid to get their hands dirty. Through his example, he instilled in his children a strong work ethic, responsibility, perseverance and an appreciation for the simple rewards of a job well done. The farm was more than a place where they lived and worked—it was where memories were made, lessons were learned and a family grew together.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Werner of Dyersville, IA; six children: Bart (Marilyn) Werner of Delaware, Debbie (Scott) Hittenmiller of Dyersville, Jody (Dale) Domeyer of Holy Cross, Shelly (Kevin) Hargrafen of Hopkinton, Todd Werner of Dyersville, and Jill (Jason) Kreutzer of Polk City; 17 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and three on the way; one sister, Kay (Walter) Loecke of Manchester; his brothers and sisters-in-laws, Leo (Helen) Kennedy of Peosta, Lloyd (Judy) Kennedy of Placid, Nelda Kennedy of Placid, Sheila McQuillen of Papillion, NE and Joan Kennedy of Dyersville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Joan (Ivan) Peters; and three brother-in-laws, Jim McQuillen, Pat Kennedy, and Vernon Kennedy.

A Duane R. Werner Memorial fund has been established.
