Eileen C. Schmitt, 96, of Epworth, Iowa, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2017 at Hawkeye Care Center in Dubuque, Iowa.

Friends and relatives of Eileen may call from 3 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Epworth, Iowa, where wake service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friends also called after 9 a.m., Thursday at the funeral home.

Services for Eileen will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 30, 2017 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Epworth, Iowa, with Rev. Michael Schuller presiding. Burial will be held in St. Clements Cemetery in Bankston, Iowa.

She was born August 22, 1921 in Holy Cross, Iowa, daughter of Michael and Mary (Daly) Schmitt. She attended of Holy Cross Catholic High School. On April 26, 1944 she was united in marriage to Melvin T. Schmitt at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Holy Cross, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 18, 1974.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Parish in Epworth, Iowa.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty (Daryl) Seiler of Dubuque, IA, Joyce Schmitt of Epworth, IA; one son, Donald Schmitt of Epworth, IA; 2 grandchildren, Dave (Kris) Seiler and Sandy (Allan) Zuber; 3 great grandchildren, Ashley, Courtney, Kayleigh; brother and sister-in-law, Richard (Deb) Schmitt of Manchester, IA and Mary Lou Birkel of Sherrill, IA.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Joe (Lucille) Schmitt; two sisters, Mae Rita (Paul) Leibfried, Helen (Howard) Breitbach; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clifford (Rosella) Schmitt, Leonard (Dorothy) Schmitt and Herman Birkel.
