James J. Vorwald, 70, of Placid, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, from injuries sustained in a Motor Vehicle accident in rural Strawberry Point, Iowa.

Visitation for Jim will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Peosta, Iowa, where a prayer service will be held at 2:30 p.m.  Visitation will also continue after 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the funeral home.

Services for Jim will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Peosta, Iowa.  A private family burial will be held at a later date.

James was born April 19, 1955, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Paul and Ethel (Recker) Vorwald.  He was a graduate of Western Dubuque High School in Epworth, Iowa.  Right out of school Jim worked for Merl Koppes Welding, then he farmed the family farm and later working for Horsfield Construction before spending many years as an over-the-road truck driver.  He proudly logged countless miles across the United States.  When not on the road, Jim could often be found enjoying truck and tractor pulling events with the Heartland Truck & Tractor Pullers Association and the East Central Iowa Pullers Association.

He enjoyed playing cards with his friends, and spending time with his dog, Roxie.  The weekly outing with his friends.  His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.

In 1981 Jim was married to Lynn Anstoetter of Farley.  Together they shared 37 years of marriage.

He is survived by his six children, Justin Vorwald of Scotch Grove, Kelly (Clint) Dietz of Asbury, Tammy (Chris) Scholbrock of Hawkeye, Joseph (Brianna) Vorwald of Cascade, Tim Vorwald (& friend, Emily) of Scotch Grove, and Andrew Vorwald (& friend, Jordan Putnam) of Wyoming; eleven grandchildren, Brandon McCormick, Owen, Wyatt, and Ava Deitz, Layne Chapman, Tenley Bickford, Bristol, and Alexis Scholbrock, Riley Vorwald, Layton and RaeLynn Putnam; his mother, Ethel Vorwald of Placid; his siblings, David Vorwald of Zwingle, Pat Vorwald of Bernard, Daniel (Judith) Vorwald of Bernard, Janie Vorwald of Placid, Marjorie (Phillip) Lehmann of Peosta, and Diane Vorwald of Placid; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Paul Vorwald on January 26, 2014; two brothers, Stephen P. Vorwald and Michael F. Vorwald.
