Janaan E. Funke, 73, of Dyersville, Iowa, died Monday, June 27, 2016 at her home in Dyersville, Iowa.
Friends and relatives of Janaan may call from 2 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friends may also call after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Services for Janaan will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville, Iowa, with Rev. Dennis Quint presiding. Burial will be held in St. Francis Cemetery in Dyersville, Iowa.
She was born March 28, 1943 in Monticello, Iowa, daughter of Mathias and Mathilda (Faber) Manternach. She is a graduate of the former St. Mary's High School in Cascade, Iowa. On May 30, 1968 she was united in marriage to David O. Funke at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa. The couple farmed in the rural Dyersville area. He preceded her in death on September 24, 2011.
Janaan was very artistic and enjoyed quilting and sewing. She truly loved and was devoted to her children and grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Dyersville and devoted her time to the Layette Committee.
She is survived by two sons, Douglas (Wendy Willenbring) Funke of Center Point, IA, and Daniel (Cindy) Funke of Appleton, WI; two daughters, Debra (Paul) Engler of Worthington, IA and Dawn (Adam) Recker of Dyersville, IA; nine grandchildren, James, Josh and Joe Engler, Carli, Ben and Tyler Funke, Eli, Claire and Zoe Recker; a brother, Irvin (Lu) Manternach of Cedar Falls, IA; three sisters,her twin, Judy Puetz of Dubuque, IA, Carlyn Sellner of Dyersville, IA and Sharon Manternach of Dubuque, IA; two brothers-in-law, Dennis (Jean) Funke of Dubuque, Roger Mescher of Dyersville, IA, one sister-in-law, Elaine Funke of Dyersville, IA.
She is also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Dean Funke on December 9, 2001; and a brother-in-law, James Sellner, one niece, Janita Sellner, brothers and sisters-in-law, Leroy (Lois) Funke, Vila (Dale) Hofer, Norma (Robert) Edleman , Marilyn Mescher and Robert Funke.
The family of Janaan would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Dubuque for the care and support given to Janaan.
