He was born December 18, 1942 in Dubuque, Iowa son of Henry and Lauretta ((Sauser) Then. He grew up on a farm in rural Placid, Iowa.
Al was a simple-man, the simple things in life made him happy. He loved toing to work at the Area Residential Care-Vocational workshop, where he earned a pay check and made many friends. He loved going out to eat, buying his Pepsi/Coke, buying new clothes, going for a ride in the van or car or just going out for coffee.
As Al got older he really enjoyed going to see Bob & Mario and friends at Cosy Corners. He loved all the daily activities going on around him and getting his daily cup of Joe. AL enjoyed going to his friends, Mike and Sue home during the holidays, as he became a part of their family. The boys would always ask-is AL coming over to the house; They really enjoyed seeing Al and he often made eye-contact with them and always shook their hand-with a smile. Al eventually moved to Sunnycrest Manor-again he was met with loving care from Ann and the Nursing Staff and Direct Care people; they became Al’s second family. They were always very attentive to his wants, needs and medical issues. Al seemed very happy while living there.
He is survived by two brothers, Ronald Then of Placid, Iowa and Gerald Then of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one sister, Sue Then of Cedar Rapids, IA; and several nieces and nephews, Bob & Mario and the staff at Cozy Corners, and Ann and the loving staff from Sunnycrest Manor; and his friends, Mike & Sue and family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Richard H. Then, David “Eldee” Then, and Kenneth R. Then.
