John Herman Hacke, of Cascade, Iowa, passed away on October 31, 2026.

Visitation for John will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2026, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa. Burial will be held in Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque, Iowa with full Military Honors afforded by the Cascade American Legion Post #528.

John was born on March 7, 1936 in Dubuque, Iowa and later moved with his family to farm in Bernard, Iowa. He entered the Army after graduating from Monticello High School and was based in El Paso, Texas, where he and an Army buddy road-tripped to Ada, Oklahoma and he met his wife, Barbara, on a blind date. They were united in marriage on February 14, 1958. After his service in the Army was complete, they moved back to the Bernard area to farm and then later moved to Cascade in retirement. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He shared a loving marriage with his wife, Barbara Ann (Click) Hacke for 68+ years, and together they built a family that was the center of his life. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Robin (Don) Vize, parents, John and Irene (Kaufman) Hacke and his sisters and brother in-laws, Florence and Paul Moran and Eleanor and Elmer Jacobs

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann (Click) Hacke; his daughters, Rawnee Marie Hacke, Karen Louise Hacke, Pamela Kay (Mark) Darrah, and Wendy Ann (Randy) Benischek.

John was a proud grandfather to Megan Elizabeth (Derrick) Peet, Marissa Blaine (Jordon) Denison, and Calvin John Vize his brother, William (Marie) Hacke. He was also blessed with four great-grandchildren, Jamie and June Denison, and Izabelle and Ashlynn Peet, who brought him immense joy.

John will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his unfailing optimism and steady presence, and the lasting impact he made on those who knew and loved him and his willingness to help his community by being involved with the Western Dubuque School Board and Farm Service Board; where he served many years as the president on each board. As a member of the school board, he had the pleasure of handing each one of his girls their diplomas as they walked the stage at their high school graduation. A memory, they all cherish. He was also on many county boards along with being a Farm Bureau member. His memory will live on through the generations of family he cherished.
