Kathleen M. Massey, 82, of Farley, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 11:55 p.m. at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade, Iowa.
Friends and relatives of Katie may call from 2 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Farley, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 1:30 p.m., a CDA Rosary will be held at 4:30 p.m., the Farley American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 6:45 p.m. and the Farley American Legion will meet at 7:00 p.m.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 19, 2017 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley, Iowa, with Rev. Michael Schueller Presiding. Burial will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Farley, Iowa.
She was born February 14, 1935 in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Irvin and Florence (Scully) Kress. She received her education at St. Columbkille's in Dubuque and attended the Mercy School of Nursing where she graduated in 1956. She was employed as a registered Nurse at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque and later at Mercy Medical Center in Dyersville, Iowa.
On October 7, 1958 she was united in marriage to Paul Massey at the Nativity Catholic Church in Dubuque, Iowa. Katie enjoyed reading, writing, painting, traveling, camping and politics. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and was fortunate to have visited her "homeland' twice.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Farley, Iowa, a member of the Catholic Daughters of the America's-Presentation Court #1460, and the Farley American Legion Auxiliary. She was a 4-H leader and served on the Parish Social Concerns Committee for several years. Katie also taught at the Parish School of Religion for 9th grade students for 17 years.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Massey of Farley, Iowa; four children, Mike (Julie) Massey of Farley, IA, Molly (Darrell) Holub and Mary Kay (Phil) Recker both of Marion, IA, and Mark (Kathy) Massey of Worthington, IA; 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchild with one on the way; three siblings, Larry (Colleen) Kress of Waterloo, IA, Ruth Boll and Jane Brimeyer both of Dubuque, IA; and a sister-in-law,Carol Kress.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary Ann Kress; two siblings in infancy, Teresa and Edward Kress; three brothers-in-law, Francis Brimeyer, Roy Boll and Clarence Reisen.
