Obituary

Larry R. Rettenmeier, 89, of Cascade, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Mercy One Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa, surrounded by his family.
Visitation for Larry will be held from 9 to 11:00 on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the Peace United Church of Christ in Monticello, Iowa.   The Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
Services for Larry will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Saturday at the Peace United Church of Christ with Pastor Frank Shepherd officiating.   Burial will be held in the Cascade Community Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa.
He was born February 18, 1934, in Chillicothe, Missouri, son of Doris Kisting. He received his education in the Dubuque schools.  On May 4, 1958, he was united in marriage to Shirley Annis in Central City, Iowa.  He was employed by the Cascade Municipal Utilities for several years.
He was a Veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.  He was a former member of the Cascade Lions Club and a Bowling team at the former Cascade Lanes.  He was an avid CUBS and Chicago Bears fan.  He loved spending time with his family, often attending his grandchildren and great grandchildren's sporting events.  Larry was well known for his quick wit and was always ready with a one liner that would put you in stiches.
He was a member of the Peace of Christ United Church in Monticello, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Rettenmeier of Cascade, IA; five children, Brenda (Tom) Breitbach of  Rickardsville, IA, Steve (Teresa) Rettenmeier of Rockwood, TN, Laurie (Joe) Koppes of Cascade, IA, Audrey (Doug) Green of Hopkinton, IA and Julie Rettenmeier of Cedar Rapids, IA; 20 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Betty Silver of Central City, IA.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Glenda Kay Steger on November 30, 2021; a great granddaughter, Kenzie and one sister, Betty Longley.
A Larry R. Rettenmeier memorial fund has been established.
