Obituary

LaVern F. Sindt, 88, of Peosta, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Hawkeye Care Center in Asbury, Iowa.

Visitation for LaVern will be held from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, June 4, 2023, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Peosta, Iowa, where a prayer service will be held at 1:30 p.m.   Visitation will also be held after 9 a.m. on Monday, June 5, 2023, at the funeral Home.

Services for LaVern will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 5, 2023, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Peosta, Iowa with Rev. Michael Schueller presiding.  Burial will be held in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque, Iowa.

He was born January 20, 1935, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of John and Alberta (Backes) Sindt.  He received his education in Sacred Heart Elementary and is a graduate of Senior High School in Dubuque, Iowa.  On October 11, 1955, he was united on marriage to Gladys Siefker at Holy Ghost Catholic Chuch in Dickeyville, Wisconsin.

Vern and his brother, Leonard founded Sindt Motor Sales in Dubuque in 1959, down on Central Avenue and later moved to Highway 20.  In 1979, Vern and Leonard along with Terry Harris started Sindt and Harris Golf Carts and in 1999 Terry bought them out.  Vern worked in the business until his retirement.  He was proud of the fact that it was taken over by his two sons and nephews and is now in the hands of the third generation.

He enjoyed riding motorcycles and golfing.  He also loved playing country music on his steele guitar, and during the 1960's he was a member of Irv Behr and the Rhythm Boys Band.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish in Peosta, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gladys Sindt of Peosta, IA; four children, Gary (Susan) Sindt of Asbury, IA, Sherry (Chuck) Watters of Wellington, FL, Randy (Christine) Sindt of Dubuque, IA, and Steven (Christine) Sindt of Iowa City, IA; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; his brother, Leonard Sindt of Delhi, IA; two sisters-in-laws, Jenelda Neis of Dubuque, IA and Patricia Quade of Dubuque, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Sindt; two sisters-in-law, Elaine Sindt and Doris Oyen; and three brothers-in-law, Bhurnell Neis, Eldon Oyen and Ernie Quade.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque and the staff at Hawkeye Care Center for all the wonderful care and support they gave to LaVern.
