Lawrence J. Martin, 75, of Peosta, Iowa passed away peacefully on Monday, September 1, 2025, at Grand Meadows in Dubuque, Iowa, from complications with dementia.

There will be no public services.  The Reiff Funeral Home in Peosta, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence was born October 22, 1950, in Davenport, Iowa, son of Leon and Marian (Bartells) Martin.  He was a graduate of North Scott High School in Davenport, Iowa.  On April 18, 1970, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Pamela D Kokemuller in Davenport, Iowa.  He was an entrepreneur throughout his life. The couple moved to Dubuque in August of 1981, to own and operate American Freight System.  In 1988, the couple purchased their first farm.  In 2000, the couple retired from farming and started Gingerbread Ridge Subdivision, he operated a locker plant, and many more endeavors.

The couple were huge sports fans, they watched them on TV and they spent a great amount of time at races, dirt track, NASCAR and Drag races.  He was also an avid Hawkeye fan.

He is an Army veteran, being drafted in 1970.

He is survived by two children, Nolan (Carla) Martin of Peosta, and Nicole (Matt) Hefel of Epworth; three grandchildren, Morgan (Austin) McDowell, Abbe Hefel, and Meriah Martin (and Dusty); four great grandchildren, Knox, Hudson, Aurora, and Rehn; one sister, Debbie Paustian of Davenport, IA; and two brothers-in-law, Rick (Cindy) Kokemuller of Davenport, IA and Fred Makepeace of CA.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Martin on Sept. 28, 2023; his parents; two sisters, Veronica Makepeace and Carol Worell; one brother Jeff Martin.
