Lois Ann Manternach, 88, of rural Cascade, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Mount Carmel Bluffs Care Center in Dubuque, Iowa.

Visitation for Lois will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa, with a CDA Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also call after 9 a.m. Monday, February 19, 2024, at St. Martin's Catholic Church, in Cascade, Iowa.

A Funeral Mass will be held for Lois at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2024, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa with Rev. Neil Manternach presiding and Joe Schockemoehl as deacon, Rev. Mark Osterhaus and other clergy from the Archdiocese of Dubuque will concelebrate. Burial will be held at St. Peter's Cemetery in Temple Hill, Iowa.

Lois was born on January 4, 1936, in Fillmore, Iowa, daughter of Joseph and Dolores (Boge) Gravel. She received her education at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Fillmore, and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School in Cascade. On November 16, 1957, she was united in marriage to Lawrence A. "Larry" Manternach, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fillmore, IA. The couple farmed in rural Temple Hill.  He preceded her in death on May 7, 2015.

She was a member of St. Peter's Parish in Temple Hill, Iowa, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Blessed Mother Court #1926.  Lois taught 2nd grade CCD classes for 23 years, and she and Larry were a Sponsor Couple at Temple Hill.

Lois was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who truly enjoyed spending time with her family.  She was known for her hospitality and her bread making skills, especially her cinnamon rolls. Lois enjoyed playing many card games with family and friends especially euchre.

She is survived by her seven children: Rev. Neil Manternach of Mason City, Sr. LaDonna Manternach, BVM of Dubuque, Loren (Lori) Manternach of Cascade, Dean (Linda Heying, Kevin Mader) Manternach of Omaha, NE, Michelle "Shelley" Manternach of Dubuque, Matthew (Jennifer) Manternach of Cascade, Maria (Jamie) Wood of Holliston, MA. There are thirteen grandchildren: Megan (Kyle) Webber, Drew (Stephanie) Manternach and Aaron Manternach, Thea, Sophia, Grace (Miranda Cason) and Micah Manternach, Jonah, Madeline and Nathaniel Manternach, Emma, Noah, and Bennett Wood; and five great grandchildren: Elodie, Kelby, and Finan Webber, Hugo and Oscar Manternach.  She has three siblings: Celeste (Loras) Heims of Dundee, Alan (Lois) Gravel of Cascade, and Mary Jane (Pete) Kurt of Peosta; brothers and sisters-in-law: Joe (JoAnn) Manternach, Ralph (Rita) Manternach, Joan Hoffmann, Muriel Schlemme, and Lester (Mary Ellen) Manternach all of Cascade, Loras (Donna) Manternach of Masonville; one step-sister-in-law, Pat Manders of Dubuque.

She is also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Wayne Manternach in 1977; one sister, Carlene M. Gravel; her mother-and father-in-law, Joseph and Amelia (Kelchen) Manternach; her step-mother-in-law, Mildred (Manders) Manternach; her sisters-and brothers-in-law: Sr. Irmina "Leona" Manternach OSF,  Eleanor (Clarence) Quint, Florence (Harold) Schockemoehl, Alvina (Robert) Greif, Veronica (Herman) Welter, Eva Mae (Elmer) Klocke, Kathleen "Katie" (Harry) Rockzien, Ron (Bridget) Manternach, Duane Schlemme, and Tom Hoffmann; two step-brothers-in-law, Donald Manders and Dorrance Manders; two step-sisters-in-law, Mary Manders and Jeanette (Jack) Callahan.
