Louis J. Leibold, 86, of Cascade, Iowa, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017 at 3:24 a.m. at the Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa, Iowa.
Friends and relatives of Louis may call from 3 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 2:30 p.m., the Knights of Columbus Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. friends may also call after 9 a.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
Services for Louis will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa with Rev. Douglas Loecke presiding. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, IA, with Full Military honors afforded by the Cascade American Legion Post #528.
Louis was born May 6, 1931 in Cascade, Iowa, son of John and Mayme (Kurt) Leibold. He received his education from the rural country schools and St. Mary's High School. Louis served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On October 19, 1957 he was united in marriage to Betty McGovern at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa.
He was a farmer at heart having worked on several farms. He made butter and worked at the Cascade Municipal Plant. He worked for the Cascade Telephone Company for 33 years; he came out of retirement to work for Bernard Telephone Company part-time for 2 years. Louis also served as the financial secretary for the Knights of Columbus for many years. He met many beautiful catholic people that helped make him the man that he was. Louis was thankful for all the people God had given him to be a part of his life.
He was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade, the Cascade America Legion Post #528, and Cascade Knights of Columbus Council #930.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Leibold of Cascade, IA; 7 children, Lynn (Jim) Hostert of Cascade, IA, Lois (Scott) Swantz of Mount Vernon, IA, Leann (Dennis) Wagner of Anamosa, IA, Karen (Ken) McDermott of Cascade, IA, Joseph (Jill) Leibold of Waterloo, IA, Robert (Gwen) Leibold of Madison, WI, Kay (Dennis) Forke of Fairfax, IA; 17 grandchildren, Brianna and Brett Hostert, Austin, Collin and Kara Swantz, Mallory and Abby Wagner, Megan and Justin McDermott, Rachel, Emily and Benjamin Leibold, Ellen, Cooper and Addyson Leibold, Jackson and Lizzie Forke; two siblings, James Leibold of Clearwater, KS and Leona (Bob) Buckley of Cascade, IA.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Alex Wagner and Brandon Swantz, three siblings, Grace (Urban) Hageman, Vincent Leibold and Marion (Fred) Manternach; one sister-in-law, Margaret Ann Leibold.
In lieu of flowers a Louis J. Leibold memorial fund has been established to be distributed among charities of his choice.
