Margaret L. Cigrand, 98, of Cascade, Iowa passed away Monday, July 10, 2017 at 12:46 p.m. at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade, Iowa.
Friends and relatives of Margaret may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa where a wake service will be held at 3:30 p.m. and CDA rosary will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friends may also call after 8:30 a.m., Friday at the funeral home.
Services for Margaret will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 14, 2017 at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa with Rev. Douglas Loecke presiding. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa.
Margaret was born February 17, 1919 in Stuart, Nebraska, daughter of Mahlon and Mabel (Wymore) Shearer. Margaret grew up on the family farm north of Stuart with her parents, two brothers, and two sisters. She is a graduate of Stuart High School in Stuart, Nebraska. After high school Margaret worked various office jobs in Nebraska, prior to taking a job in Hollywood, California. She loved to talk of her time in Hollywood, where she worked in the fashion industry. She also loved to tell of her train trip from Nebraska to California where she met her future husband, Carl Cigrand, who was stationed in San Diego.
On March 27, 1943 she was united in marriage to Carl O. Cigrand in California. They made their home for many years in Cascade, Iowa. She worked at the John Deere dealership with Carl, and they shared a love of travel, wintering in Texas for many years. He preceded her in death on September 6, 1997.
She also loved playing bridge weekly with her bridge group and was an accomplished seamstress.
She was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade, Iowa and the Catholic Daughters of Americas Our Blessed Mother Court #1926.
She is survived by her children, Larry (Mame) Cigrand of Freeport, IL, Jane (Ed Pfab) Cigrand of Basalt, CO, Nick (Carole) Cigrand of Cascade, IA, Karla (Rick Leyendecker) Cigrand of Iowa City, IA; 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Sandra Cigrand on January 2, 2011; two brothers, Wayne and Richard Shearer; two sisters, Ava Jean Rador and Helen Henry.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Camp Courageous.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Riverbend and Shady Rest for the thoughtful care and support they gave to Margaret.
