Marilyn H. Hefel, 77, of Epworth, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Manor Care Health Services in Dubuque, Iowa, surrounded by her family.
Friends and relatives of Marilyn may call from 3 to 8 p.m., Sunday, July 16, 2017 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Epworth, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friends may also call after 9 a.m. Monday at the Reiff Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 17, 2017 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Epworth, Iowa with Rev. Michael Schueller Presiding. Burial will be held in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Epworth, Iowa.
Marilyn was born August 15, 1939 in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Arno and Armella (Roth) Kuhl. She received her education in the Holy Ghost school and the Immaculate Conception Academy in Dubuque. On October 22, 1960 she was united in marriage to Clair Hefel at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dubuque, Iowa. She was a homemaker, she enjoyed cooking and baking.
She enjoyed bowling and her bowling league tournaments, she was an Iowa basketball fan and Chicago CUBS fan. She enjoyed her vacations, 22consecutive years to Branson with her husband and lifetime friends, Duane and Marion Besler. She often enjoyed bus trips to shows and casino's, she especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Parish in Epworth, its Altar and Rosary Society, the Red Hats "Nifty over Fifty" Society, and the Epworth Gun Club.
She is survived by her husband, Clair Hefel of Epworth, IA; Steve (Linda) Hefel, Mark (Rhonda) Hefel, and Jeff Hefel all of Epworth, IA, Dale (Diane) Hefel of Farley, IA, Mike (Paula) Hefel of Dubuque, IA, and Lynn (Eric) Jones of Appleton, WI; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Dorothy Mae Grotkin of Plymouth, MN and Betty (Bill) Fritz of Dubuque, IA.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Arno Kuhl Jr.; her mother-in-law, Rosemary Beresford; a brother-in-law, John Grotkin; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Taylor.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque and the nurses and staff at Manor Care Health Services for all the wonderful care given to Marilyn.
