Marty was born August 11, 1953, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Harold and Rita (Wolfe) Marugg. He received his education at St. Paul's Catholic School in Worthington and graduated from Beckman High School in Dyersville, Iowa. He then attended Kirkwood Community College. He was employed at The Marugg Store in Worthington, Walmart in Manchester, and Med Plast in Monticello.
He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jane Klaren, on November 28, 1986, at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Hopkinton, Iowa. He was a member of St. Paul's Parish in Worthington, a volunteer for the Worthington Fire Department for 27 years, and he celebrated 41 years of recovery, being a steadfast friend to many in the program.
He was a man with a true servant's heart and a gentle soul, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. No task was ever beneath him; he approached life with humility, patience, loyalty, and unwavering and exemplary Catholic faith. Despite many challenges and experiences he faced throughout his life, he quietly persevered, accepting what came his way and moving forward with quiet strength and grace. He found happiness in life's simple pleasures: spending time with his dog, Freddy, riding his red bicycle through Worthington, listening to the Beach Boys, dancing and reading with his grandchildren, watching a Hawkeye game and, of course, enjoying his ice cream. He was also a true outdoorsman; he loved fishing, deer hunting, and spending time in nature. Those fortunate enough to know him will remember his humble spirit and the quiet strength and kindness he shared with others.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Marugg of Worthington, IA; three children, Holly Marugg (Jeff) of Oxford, IA, Jared (Samantha) Marugg, and Kyle Marugg, both of Germantown, WI; six grandchildren, Skyler Lilly, Emma, Andrew, Joseph, Christina, and Elizabeth Marugg; his loving sister, Marcia (Al) Fillman of Hibbing, MN; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, David (Wanda) Klaren of Hopkinton, IA, Nancy (Dan) Hayes of Stanley, IA, Mary Klaren of Epworth, IA, and Susan (Joe) Roling of Hopkinton, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents.
