Marvin M. Recker, 85, of Cascade, Iowa and formerly of Fillmore, Iowa passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Accura Health Care in Cascade, Iowa surrounded by his family.
Friends and relatives of Marvin may call from 3 to 7 p.m., Wednesday October 9, 2024, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa, where a public scripture wake service will be held at 2:00 p.m., and a KC rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held after 9 a.m. on Thursday, October 10th at the funeral home.
Services for Marvin will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fillmore, Iowa, with Archbishop Thomas Zinkula presiding and Rev. Mark Osterhaus concelebrating. Services will be live streamed at 10:30 a.m. on the St. Thomas Aquinas Pastorate Facebook page. Burial will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Fillmore, Iowa.
He was born July 24, 1939, in Hopkinton, Iowa, son of Irvin L. and Catherine (Gudenkauf) Recker. He received his education in a one room school house in the Sand Springs area and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Cascade. On May 27, 1961, he was united in marriage to Rita Carr at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fillmore, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Fillmore area until their retirement.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Fillmore and was very active in the parish. In April 2001 he was ordained as a Deacon of the Catholic Church. He was a member of the Cascade Knights of Columbus Council # 930. Marvin served his community in various leadership roles for numerous organizations.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Recker of Cascade; his children, Greg (Laurie) Recker of Cresco, Amy (Richard) Merdinger of Iowa City, Diann (Curt) Moats of Anamosa, Brian (Linda) Recker of Cascade, Tom (Brenda Turney) Recker of North Liberty, Matt (Jenny) Recker of Cascade, Chris Recker of Bernard, Andy (Betsy) Recker of Bettendorf, and Katie (Jack) Koopmann of Epworth; 23 grandchildren; Jennifer Merdinger, Catherine (Matt) Paletta, Emily Merdinger; Cory (Brenna), TJ, Markeya, Paige Moats; Luke, Rachel, Natalie Recker; Megan (Andy) Knapp, Michaela, Mitch Recker; Jake, Calli, Samantha, Carli Recker; Caroline, Elizabeth Recker; Lilly, Keegan, Aubrey, Emery Koopmann; 7 great grandchildren, Briggs, Rinley, Case Knapp; Brandt, Andie Sue, Wrenlee Moats and Beckett Moats; his siblings, Kay McNally of Cascade, Carol White of Cedar Rapids, Norb (Monica) Recker of Cascade, Diann Baumann of Mequon, WI, Ed (Darice) Recker of Cascade, Pat (Sheri) Recker of Nakomis, FL, Terry Recker of Evansdale; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Byrnes of Concord, CA.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Anna Recker; his parents-in-law, Tom and Mabel Carr; 4 brothers-in-law, Dave McNally. Pat White, Tom Baumann and Jack Byrnes.
