Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Trumm, 89, of Cascade, Iowa passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at her home in Cascade, Iowa.
Visitation for Betty will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held after 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial for Betty will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Temple Hill, Iowa, with Rev. Mark Osterhaus presiding, and assisting Deacon Joe Schockemoehl. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery.
Betty was born on July 27, 1935, in Bernard, Iowa, daughter of Joseph and Agnes (Otting) McCarthy. She received her education from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Fillmore, Iowa. On August 7, 1956, she was united in marriage to Robert W. Trumm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fillmore, Iowa. He preceded her in death on June 11, 2012.
Betty spent her years of service to her family as a wife, mother, and grandmother. She absolutely made her house a home. Her hobbies included cross stitching, needle point, crocheting, and sewing. She enjoyed cooking large meals for her family and large gatherings. She was dedicated to her family and the farm that her and Robert raised their seven children on. Betty always viewed her greatest blessing as her last-born child Connie. For years the two have been inseparable and their presence at any event would light up the room.
Betty was a very simple and faith filled Catholic, always aspiring to be an obedient follower of the Blessed Virgin often praying the rosary multiple times a day. She was a faithful member of the St. Peter's Parish in Temple Hill, Iowa
She is survived by her six children, Judy (Larry) Hayes, Donna (Garry) Kennedy, Ann (Kipp) Noreen, Lois (Dan) Hayes, Joe (Sara) Trumm, and Connie Trumm; 19 grandchildren, Molly (Justin) Bahl, Emily (Nick) Schmerbach, Ryan Kennedy, Matthew Kennedy, Brittaney (Chris) Jensen, Alexander (Abi) Noreen, Todd (Nadine) Noreen, Tyler (Andrea) Hayes, Mallory (Kody) Jones, and Abigail (Kris) Howes, Robert (Jordan) Trumm, Philip (Ella) Trumm, Carolyn (friend, Jake Westhoff) Trumm, David (Emma) Trumm, Becky (Jacob) Bonert, Emily, Annie, and Katelyn Trumm; 16 great grandchildren with one on the way; brothers and sisters-in-law, George Knepper, Ida Trumm, and Lois Manternach.
She is also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Robert and Jerry McCarthy and one in infancy; one daughter, Margie A. Trumm on June 16, 2022; one granddaughter, Natalie Hayes; father and mother-in-law John & Elizabeth (Pottebaum) Trumm; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mary (Fred) Reiter, John E. Trumm, LeRoy (Mary Clare) (Rosene) Trumm, Millie (Ed) Hosch, Alma Knepper, Dorothy (Larry) Yanda, and Lloyd Manternach.
The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to Above and Beyond Hospice, Rev. Mark Osterhaus, and all the loving care givers that provided their services to Betty for the past several years.
