Mary C. "Millie" Klostermann, 97, of Epworth, Iowa, passed away peacefully Thursday morning , June 28, 2018 at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade, IA, surrounded by her family.
Friends and relatives of Millie may call from 3 to 7 p.m., Monday, July 2, 2018 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Epworth, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friends may also call after 9 a.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian burial for Millie will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Epworth, Iowa with Rev. Michael Schueller presiding. Assisting Deacon will be James Kean. Burial will be held in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Epworth, Iowa.
She was born July 3, 1920 in Farley, Iowa, daughter of Leo and Emma (Kramer) Crimmins the oldest of 5 children. On November 27, 1939 she was united in marriage to Harold Francis Klostermann. They were the first couple to be married at the newly erected at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Epworth. After 38 years together, he preceded her in death on May 29, 1979.
She was employed at Silker's General Store for several years, before becoming the food director for Western Dubuque Community School District in 1962, until her retirement in 1988.
Millie loved baking and was known for her famous chocolate chip cookies and apple pies. Many of her family members preferred her pies over any other dessert for all family gatherings. Her faith was very important to her, saying the rosary several times a day and watching mass on TV after she was unable to attend at age 96. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and soon-to-be great-great grandmother.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Parish in Epworth, Iowa.
Millie is survived by one daughter, Judy (Ronald) Horsfield of Epworth, IA; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Klostermann of Epworth, IA; seven grandchildren, Doug (Angie) Horsfield, Rod (Karie) Horsfield, Carmen (Terry) Besler, Russel (Christie) Horsfield, Randy Klostermann, Jodi (Kevin Stoltenberg) Dunne, Kim McCabe; fifteen great grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; a sister, Anna Mae Hildebrand of Epworth, Iowa; two sisters-in-laws, Mary "Sugar" Crimmins and Lori Klostermann both of Dubuque, Iowa.
She is also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert J. Klostermann in 2006; one daughter, Jackie Klostermann in infancy; one granddaughter, Jacqueline in infancy; and three siblings, Ralph and Bill Crimmins and Mary (Norb) Leick.
The family of Mary would like to thank Stonehill Care Center, Shady Rest Care Center, and Hospice of Dubuque for their loving care and kindness.
