Matthew "Matt" Martin Daly, 92, of Bankston, Iowa died peacefully Sunday, April 17, 2016 at his home.
Friends and relatives of Matthew may call from 2 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Farley, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 1:30 p.m., a Farley American Legion Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. and an Ancient Order of Hibernians service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call after 9:00 a.m., on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the Funeral Home.
Services for Matthew will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 21, 2016 at St. Clements Catholic Church in Bankston, Iowa with Rev. Andrew Kelly (nephew) Presiding and Rev. Michael Schueller concelebrating. Burial will be held in St. Clements Cemetery in Bankston, Iowa with full military honors afforded by the Farley American Legion Post #656.
He was born April 6, 1924 in Bankston, Iowa, son of William and Anna (Kennedy) Daly, his lineage being 100% Irish. He is a graduate of the former St. Clements High School in Bankston. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1945. He was united in marriage to Ann Lawler at Treasure Island, CA on February 14, 1947. The couple returned home to Bankston to continue farming on his Uncle Joe's farm. Matt and Ann raised their family and grew the farm over the next 67 years, actively working on the farm until he was 89.
He was a member of St. Clements Parish, and its Altar and Rosary Society and served on the Parish Council. He was a member of the Farley American Legion Post #656. He was a former Director of the former Farley State Bank, and he served on the Board of Grinnell Mutual Insurance. Matt was an original member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Dubuque County #1 from Dyersville, for which he served as President of the Chapter from 2006-2007. He was inducted into the Dubuque county Cattlemen's Hall of Fame. Matt was a participant of one of the early Honor Flights out of Dubuque. This past December he was awarded the Quilt of Valor. This past year, Matt and Ann were honored at the Iowa State Fair with the Heritage Farm Award, with the farm remaining in the family for 150 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Daly of 69 years of marriage; six children, Joe (Donna) Daly of Farley, IA, Dan (Ruth) Daly of Bankston, IA; Ellen Tilley of Alpharetta, GA. Mary Pat (Ben Ward) Daly of Portland Oregon, Tim (Lori) Daly of Bankston, IA and Meg Daly (Jerry Dee) of Cliffside Park, New Jersey; 16 grandchildren; Lynn (Paul) Martin, Brian (Shannon) Daly, Megan Daly, Bridget (John) Wilhelm, William (Tifani) Daly, Heather (Tim) Maiers, Brian (Susan) Galle, T.J. (Francesca) O'Toole, Erik Tilley, Paul (Alexandra) Tilley, Lara (Charbel Bouez) Tilley, Kathleen Ward, Martin Ward, Jimmy Boeckenstedt, Sarah (Jordan Kluesner) Boeckenstedt, Eric Boeckenstedt, and 18 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Catherine Knapp, Helen Kelly, Margaret Connelly and Anna Mae Daly; two brothers, William Daly and Donald Daly; and a son-in-law, Leo Tilley.
