Richard “Dick” A. Aitchison, 85, of Cascade, Iowa passed away surrounded by his family on the evening of Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at Riverbend Retirement Community.
Visitation for Dick will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa where a prayer service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Monday after 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial for Dick will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2026, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa with Rev. Steven Garner presiding. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa with Full Military Honors afforded by the Cascade Legion Post #528.
Dick was born on September 13, 1940, in Monticello, Iowa, son of William and Isabelle (Kirsch) Aitchison. He was a Graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Cascade, Iowa. He was a United States Veteran having served in the United States Marine Corp.
On May 4, 1963, Dick was united in marriage to Kay J. Frasher at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa. She preceded him in death on May 3rd, 2006.
He was an adventurous and active man who embraced life to the fullest, enjoying golf, pickleball, tennis, biking, hiking, rafting, racing, and skiing. He remained active until a stroke in 2024 changed the course of his life. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured forever. The Grand Canyon held a special place in his heart, as did the beauty and freedom, represented by the wild mustang horses. His love of adventure, the outdoors, and the people who meant the most to him will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
Dick was a member of the St. Matthias Parish in Cascade. He was also a member of the Cascade American Legion Post# 528.
Those left to cherish his memory are his four children, Angie (Gary) Koppes of Monmouth, Scott (Staci) Aitchison of Naperville, IL, Mandy (Rodney) Crooks of Bernard, and Tony (Kelly) Aitchison of Dubuque; 15 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren with one more on the way; one brother, Gary (Sharon) Aitchison of Cascade; two brothers-in-law, Terry (Jan) Frasher of Cascade and Richard (Rose) Frasher of Texas; and special friend, Eileen Stephenson of Arizona.
He is also preceded in death by his parents; brother, William (Gladys) Aitchison Jr; and a nephew, Mark Aitchison, his father and mother-in-law, Barney and Marguerite Frasher.
