Serenus George Manders, 90, of Bernard, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on March 4, 2025. Born on February 14, 1935, in rural Jackson County, Iowa, he was the beloved son of Irvin and Vivian (Junk) Manders. George received his education in the local schools of Jackson County.

On March 23, 1957, he married Constance M. Knepper at St. Raphael's Cathedral in Dubuque, Iowa. They shared many wonderful years together until her passing on May 15, 2020.

George was a skilled carpenter and electrician, known for his versatility and dedication to his craft. He was a man of many talents, enjoying ice cream, popcorn, horseback riding, and coaching the Little League Team of Bernard. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

A proud U.S. Army Veteran, George served during the Korean conflict and was honored with full military honors by the Cascade American Legion Post #528. He was a devoted member of St. Patrick's Parish in Garryowen, Iowa.

He is survived by his children, David Manders of Zwingle, IA, Donald Manders of Dubuque, Iowa, and Dennis Manders (and friend,Nancy Mullins) of Zwingle, IA, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and his sister, Lois Franzen of Maquoketa, IA;and a sister- in -law, Catherine "Kate" Palm of Dubuque, IA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Constance, his parents, his son Douglas, several siblings in infancy, one brother, Larry Manders; and five brothers-in-laws, Jerry Franzen, Dennis Palm, Nicholas Knepper, David Knepper and Loras Pat Knepper.

The family will greet friends and relatives from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Garryowen, Iowa, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Mark Osterhaus presiding. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Fillmore, Iowa.
