Silvius M. Neumann, 91, of Farley, Iowa, formerly of Bankston, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Hawkeye Care Center in Asbury, Iowa.
Visitation for Silvius will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Farley, Iowa, where a prayer service will be held at 1:30 p.m., and the New Vienna VFW service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held after 9 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian burial for Silvius will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at St. Clement's Catholic Church in Bankston, Iowa with Rev. Michael Schueller presiding. Burial will follow in St. Clement's Cemetery in Bankston, Iowa, with full military honors afforded by the New Vienna VFW Post# 7736 and the Farley American Legion Post #656.
Silvius was born on October 28, 1932, in Bankston, Iowa, son of John P. and Loretta (Clemen) Neumann. He received his education from St. Clement's school in Bankston, Iowa. Silvius was united in marriage May 1, 1956, to Joyce Elgin at St. Clement's Church in Bankston. Together the couple farmed in the Bankston area. Farming was Silvius' life and where his love of the land was evident. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who truly enjoyed spending time with his family.
Silvius was a faithful man and a devoted member of the St. Joseph's parish in Farley and formerly a member of St. Clement's parish in Bankston, Iowa. He was a United States Army Veteran having served during the Korean War and was a member of New Vienna VFW Post# 7736.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Neumann of Farley, two sons, David (Julie) Neumann of Holy Cross, Dennis (Becky) Neumann of Asbury, and twin daughters Donna Neumann of Dubuque, and Diane (Mark) Tauke of Earlville, and; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer and Michelle Neumann, Avery (Josie) Tauke, Peyton and Tessa Tauke, Bode Neumann; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan (Grace) Elgin, Joanne Childers, Betty Elgin, Ferdinand Walter (Wally) Krawczuk, and Andrea (Bill) Klaren; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ambrose (Katie) Neumann and Francis "Fritz" (Lorraine) Neumann; father and mother-in-law, Peter and Florrine Elgin; in-laws, Allen Elgin, Jerry Elgin, Mary Alice (Charlie) Vaske, Wray Childers and Margaret Helen Krawczuk.
